When it comes to weight loss, methods, techniques and weight loss products are a dime a dozen. Most people know and try to observe the ideal of taking in less calories and trying to expend them by being more active. Most people will also try to watch their portion sizes and cut out fat and sugar.
What most people trying to lose weight may not know however is that there are weight loss foods. Knowing which foods these are will help one keep away from ineffective, fleeting or risky weight loss methods like starvation, cutting out some food groups and excessive exercising.
According to research, including as many of these weight loss foods as much as possible will have a significant effect on how much body fat. These foods are referred to as thermogenic. They help to burn fat because they require more calories to digest. Others speed up the body’s metabolism, clearing out toxins and foods that might remain in the body and be stored as extra which gets stored in form of fat.

As for thermogenic foods, most proteins fall here, this is because it takes more calories to break down and digest compared to other food groups like carbohydrates and vitamins. Eggs are effective weight loss foods. They are one good source of protein. They regularly received bad press because of their cholesterol level but it has been shown that it is how it is prepared that matters. A boiled or poached egg or one made with a minimum of oil is quite healthy. One can also opt to remove the yolk and enjoy the protein-rich whites.
Another benefit of eggs is vitamin B12 which helps to break down fat cells in the body. Other good proteins are lean cuts of meat, including fish, poultry with the skin removed to get rid of the fat and lean cuts of beef like the loins and rounds.
Other weight loss foods that can help one achieve their ideal weight are dairy products. These however should only be low fat products such as fat free yogurt, skimmed milk and low fat cheeses. Taken at least four times daily, women observed in a weight loss study were found to lose up to 70 percent more fat than those who didn’t consume these products.
A different study carried out at Purdue University proved that women who drank at least three cups of skimmed milk kept off weight than those who didn’t. This was attributed to calcium which not only keeps bones strength but helps in the assimilation of body fat.
Beans are also weight loss foods. They are ideal source of protein and fiber as well. This is true of all types of beans such as black beans, white ones, lima beans, kidney beans and other varieties. Again, the key is in preparation. Avoid preparing them with too much cooking oil or those canned in tomato source which is high in sugar.
Oatmeal is another fat burning super food. It is not only full of fiber but it is also quite filling and will keep one going for quite a while. It is recommended that one start their day with a bowl of oat porridge or have it in form of cereal. Sweeten with honey or dried fruit like cranberries and raisins rather than sugar.
Most people will cut fat out of their diet but the right kind of fat is essential. The best kind is olive oil. Use it as spray to cook, make salad dressings or spot on bread rather than patting butter on it.
